Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988, she became chief congressional reporter. Mitchell was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist, as well as anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for her journalism achievements, such as the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled with Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss issues such as and the Iran Contra controversy.
